Artificial intelligence makes it possible for a machine or system to learn from experience, adjust to new inputs and to carry out tasks that humans might otherwise be needed for. The technology is proving its potential in any number of industries, from space exploration to finance and commerce. One area where AI is proving particularly useful is in everyday security and surveillance, because the system can see, ‘think’ and respond on someone’s behalf – reducing the need for human presence and attention around the clock.
So how does this work in a security and surveillance scenario?
Minimising false alarms
Motion detection has long been a feature of most security systems, but in isolation this can also lead to repetitive false alarms. Those responsible for site security may have come to expect (and dismiss) notifications each time an errant cat, wind-blown branch or moving cloud triggers the system. Not only is this irritating and disruptive, but it can also lead to desensitised responses if a true issue requires attention onsite.
Spectur’s advanced AI learns to distinguish humans and vehicles from animals and other elements, and sends notifications to security personnel only when required. That means fewer false warnings, and more meaningful in-app alerts that are worth paying attention to.
Providing rapid responses
Traditional security systems will typically send an alert so that a human can assess a situation and respond to the site. Quite often, this means the offender could be long gone – and the damage already done – by the time security personnel arrive. But when the site is monitored by a Spectur security camera with AI, any human movement detection can instantly trigger a warning and deterrence process to intruders.
When an intruder is identified, the system illuminates (red warning in the STA6 or white floodlight with the HD5), while a loud spoken warning is emitted onsite. This provides a response within seconds of the trespasser arriving in view of the camera, and in most cases will cause them to leave the site immediately before damage can be done. Meanwhile, security staff are alerted via an in-app notification and email so they can make their way to the site if they need to.
Reducing dependence on expensive security resources
It’s easy to see how this AI functionality can be beneficial for urban sites but also remote locations; enabling security personnel to monitor several sites at once and create an instant response, even if you’re hundreds of kilometres away at the time. You can also integrate any number of existing systems with Spectur’s IoT security camera system, such as Milestone or other ONVIF compliant video management softwares, to suit your application.
Artificial intelligence for security camera systems is drastically changing the way critical sites can be monitored. You could expand your sites, operations and security awareness, without necessarily expanding security resources and costs. You could choose to outsource your security completely while minimising costs, or choose to monitor the site yourself. Put simply, if you’re a business owner, security manager or facilities manager you can sleep soundly knowing that your security system is actively looking, thinking and responding for you at all times. Now that’s intelligent.
